Installation & Setup
What kind of foundation do I need for the sauna?
A solid, level base is essential. Suitable foundation options include:
• Concrete
• Flagstone
• Wooden deck
• Bricks or pavers
• Compressed gravel
⚠️ Important: Never place your sauna directly on bare earth. This can cause instability, increase the risk of damage, and make cleaning more difficult. A hard surface foundation ensures better performance and longevity.
Can I install the sauna myself, or do you offer installation services?
Yes, you can assemble the sauna yourself using our detailed step-by-step instructions. We recommend having two people for the job.
Depending on your location, we may also be able to recommend a trusted professional installer. Alternatively, you can hire a local handyman or carpenter for assistance.
Can I plug my sauna into a regular power point?
No. Our saunas are not plug-and-play appliances. They require a high-power supply (usually 240V) and must be hardwired directly into your home’s electrical system by a licensed electrician.
Your electrician will need to:
• Run a dedicated circuit so the sauna doesn’t share power with other appliances—this prevents overloads and breaker trips.
• Install an isolation switch outside the sauna room, as required by law, so power can be shut off quickly in case of maintenance or emergencies.
What’s involved in getting the sauna up and running?
Power connection:
Have your electrician run power to an isolation switch at your sauna’s location. Please contact us beforehand to confirm the required amperage, so the electrician can install the correct circuit breaker on your main switchboard.
Assembly:
Ready-made saunas such as the Saunum or Haljas arrive fully assembled and only need minimal finishing touches. Other models come flat-packed and require on-site assembly.
Heater installation:
A certified electrician must install the heater in accordance with local electrical regulations and the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Do I need single-phase or three-phase power?
Both single-phase and three-phase power can work for our saunas.
However, larger saunas—particularly those with extensive glass surfaces—often require a more powerful heater that typically needs a three-phase circuit.
If you have only single-phase power, please contact us, and we’ll help you choose the right sauna and heater for your setup.
Do I need an RCD when installing a sauna heater?
No. Sauna heaters require a dedicated power circuit without an RCD (residual current device).
According to AS/NZS 3000:2018 – Electrical Installations (Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules), section 6.5 on saunas, an RCD (Residual Current Device) is not required for sauna heaters.
⚠️ Installing an RCD may cause the heater to trip over time. While it might initially function fine, heating elements can develop hairline cracks. When water is poured over them, these faults may trigger the RCD and interrupt power to the heater.
If your electrician insists on installing an RCD, please be aware that the heater may trip frequently. Unfortunately, we cannot warrant or support any issues caused by RCD-related tripping.

What are your lead times?
For in-stock items, delivery is typically scheduled within 2–4 business days after full payment is received.
For out-of-stock or custom products, please allow 3 to 6 months for delivery. Lead times vary by product and may be affected by manufacturer schedules, international shipping, and customs clearance.
Contact us for a more precise estimate.
Is a deposit required for pre-orders?
Yes. A 50% deposit (excluding freight) is required to secure your order. The remaining 50%, plus freight charges, is due before dispatch.
Maintenance & Care
Do I need to treat my sauna and/or tub for outdoor use?
Yes. To protect your sauna from weather damage and extend its lifespan, it’s essential to oil or stain both the exterior and interior once a year. Regular oiling is also required to keep your warranty valid.
Tubs only require exterior treatment.

How can I prevent mould in my sauna?
To minimise the risk of mould, follow these effective practices:
• Use towels on benches and the floor to absorb moisture and protect the timber.
• After each session, run the heater for about 15 minutes with the door closed to dry out moisture.
• Then, leave the door open for 15–30 minutes to allow airflow and ventilation.
• Remove damp towels or items immediately after use.
• Wipe down surfaces regularly, especially high-contact areas.
• Ensure your sauna space has good ventilation, especially if installed indoors.
How do I clean and maintain my sauna?
Regular cleaning and proper care help preserve your sauna’s appearance and extend its lifespan:
• Use towels on benches and floors during each session to absorb sweat and prevent staining.
• Air out the sauna after every use.
• Wipe down surfaces—including benches, walls, and ceilings—using a soft brush or cloth and a mild vinegar and water solution, or a sauna-safe cleaning agent.
• For stubborn stains or dirt, lightly sand the affected areas with fine-grit sandpaper, then treat the surface with a suitable wood preservative.
• Avoid using paints or varnishes, as sauna wood must be able to breathe.
• Do not use harsh chemicals or general disinfectants—they can bleach or damage the wood.
• Never use a pressure washer or hose. Excess moisture can compromise the wood and structure of the sauna.
What’s involved in sauna heater and stone maintenance?
Proper maintenance of your sauna heater and stones ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your equipment. Here’s what’s involved:
• Replace heater elements approximately every 1,500 hours of use. This must be done by a licensed electrician.
• Restack sauna stones periodically to promote even airflow and efficient heating.
• Replace worn or broken stones regularly. Temperature changes and water exposure cause stones to weaken, crumble, or discolor over time.
How to check your sauna stones:
• Inspect your stones at least once a year, or more frequently if you notice broken pieces beneath the heater.
• Tap stones together—if they crack, crumble, or break easily, it’s time to discard and replace them.
• Before restacking, wash the stones.
• Avoid tightly packed stones. Broken pieces can block airflow, causing the heater to overheat and operate inefficiently.
Saunum Heater Specifics
I already have a heater. Can I still get the benefits of a Saunum system?
How long does the sauna take to heat up?
Saunum saunas typically take 45 to 90 minutes to reach optimal temperature, depending on factors like room size, insulation, and ambient conditions.
Saunum heaters use a large rock mass, which takes longer to heat but provides superior performance. The heating elements warm the stones, and the stones gradually and evenly heat the room. This results in softer, longer-lasting steam (löyly) and a more comfortable experience—unlike small rock heaters, which heat up quickly but produce short bursts of harsh, dry heat.
How do I set up the Leil control unit?
You can find setup instructions in the Leil 1.1 User Manual. It provides a step-by-step guide to help you connect and configure your control unit correctly. If you need help during the process, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to assist.
How do I use the Saunum heater?
1. Prepare the Sauna
• Choose the temperature and duration of the session and start heating the sauna.
• Make sure the air-blending (ventilation) system is turned off until the sauna is ready.
• Do not pour water on the stones until the sauna reaches your desired temperature.
2. Wait for Temperature Readiness
• Once the sauna hits the target temperature, the control unit will display:
✅ “Sauna is ready”
3. Understand Rock Mass Heating
• The heater stores a large amount of heat in the stones.
• When the set temperature is reached, the heating elements shut off, but the rocks continue radiating warmth—keeping the room hot and stable.
4. Manage Temperature Fluctuations
• Activating the ventilation system may cause temporary temperature dips as the heat is redistributed. This is completely normal.
5. Between Sessions
• If stepping out (e.g. for a swim), turn off the ventilation. This helps the sauna regain heat quickly for your next session.
My sauna isn’t ready by the scheduled time—why?
Your Saunum heater gets smarter with every session.
It takes around 4–5 uses for the climate device to learn how your specific sauna heats. Until then, the preheat time might be a bit off.
💡 Tip: Play it safe by setting the sauna 15–30 minutes earlier than your intended start time—e.g. set it for 5:30 PM if you want to start at 6:00 PM.
Why isn’t my heater heating the room?
A common reason is the door sensor wiring. If the door sensor included with the Saunum heater wasn’t installed, or if a bypass loop wasn’t created when it’s absent, the control system will assume the door is open and prevent the heater from starting.
This safety feature ensures the sauna doesn’t operate while the door is ajar. To resolve this, ensure your electrician follows the installation instructions carefully, including proper wiring of the door sensor or bypass loop.
